Located in the westen coast of the peninsula Malaysia, there is one of the Malaysian Indigeous tribe living there called Mah Meri tribe. Mah Meri means “bersisir” and they live close to the sea and fishermen. One of the rituals still practiced by the clan is Puja Pantai. It is the last important ceremony still practiced by the Mah Meri.
‘Puja Pantai’ means offering to the sea and that has been started many years ago. According to clan beliefs, ‘tongkang’ (ship) was caught in a big storm of the Carey Island coast that carring passangers and supliers. The ship was survived by Moyang Getah that villagers believed that saved the ship.

Held in Pulau Carey, one of the district in Klang, the ritual started with the invoke the ancestor’s spirits done by Mah Meri shaman in Kampung Judah and they marched 3 kilometre towards the beach with the villagers, shaman and musician.
The ritual took place at the beach during low tide as the ‘mahligai’ (mansion) is located. ‘Puja Pantai’ usually falls after the Chinese Lunar New Year, when the door to others world is open. The tribe are believe in animists which believe in world of spirits that connection with the real world.
